Description
Materials for this work were gathered over the last twenty years, and the writing of it has occupied the last six. Its progress owes much throughout to the constant interest and care of my Graduate Assistant, Miss Zena Sachs, LL.B. (Sydney), and in the years of actual writing to the devotion and companionship of a number of others. My friend Dr. Charles Boasson, of Jerusalem, came to Sydney to spend some six months reviewing the MS. in its second draft. He also prepared materials for filling a number of gaps which appeared when the MS. could be seen as a whole, notably in Chapters 1, 8 and 14 touching respectively contempor- ary work on law and society, anti-trust law, and on judge and administrator. From Mr. A. R. Blackshield, Lecturer in my Department, I have had admirably penetrating criticisms and suggestions, as he read both the MS. and galley proofs. Mr. Harding and he also worked on the General Index. Both of them, as well as Miss Lyndel V. Prott, LL.B. (Sydney), also helped to place, within the already rather massive final MS., new items emerging during the years of writing,
