Description
This work has completed hundred years. It is considered an authority on the two statutes, and is held in high esteem, not only in India, but also all those countries whose laws relating to contract and specific relief are similar. This is owing to the immense contribution of earlier editors of the work. It is a matter of honour and privilege to be associated with its revision once again.
This edition includes many decisions of High Courts in India, and the Supreme Court of the past ten years. The Supreme Court has laid down important principles in commercial matters, particularly in matters arising from arbitration proceedings. Decisions of highest courts from common law jurisdictions, viz. United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Singapore, Malaysia, of the past decade have also been discussed. The edition states the law as reported until September 2011.
The 14th edition would not have been possible without the able assistance of Deepak Bhavadasan, Uthara Priyadharshini and Mihika Jalan, all students of ILS Law College, Pune. Ms. AbhaThapalyal Gandhi and Ms. Supriti Narayanan of LexisNexis supported new ideas and suggestions, and gave every assistance that I sought. Ms. Sonia Patel and Ms. Aastha Dua, editors at LexisNexis have worked very hard to hone content and references. I especially thank them for creating indexes. Facilities at ILS Law College made my task easy. My husband Kaustubh, my daughter Deepti and my parents and parents-in-law gave unstinted and affectionate support. I thank them all.
I hope that this revised edition will be received with the same confidence as the earlier ones.
