Subramaniyam's Commentaries on "Advocates Act with Bar Council of India Rules alongwith Professional Ethics and Allied Laws" needs no introduction to its readers and patrons since its first appearance in 1963. This book has stood the test of time over 50 years and has gone thru 5 Editions with several reprints and now the 6th Edition is released duly amended upto date. The genesis of the Advocates Act, 1961 is for providing a uniform and well-Knit Structure of Legal profession which plays a pivotal role in strengthening the system of administrative justice in the country. A properly equipped and efficient Bar can play a pre-eminent role not only in the system of justice but also in the Constitutional Government and rule of law. Advocacy is not a craft but a profession wherein devotion to duty constitutes the hallmark. Sincerity of profession and the earnestness of endeavour are the two wings that will bare aloft the advocate to the tower of success, Given these virtues other qualifications will follow of their own account. This is the reason why legal profession is regarded to be a noble one. An Advocate is an officer of the Court and with that privilege responsibility must follow in its wake. His primary allegiance is to the Court and it is no part of the professional duties of an Advocate to act merely as a mouthpiece of his client. A member of the Bar should use best efforts to restrain and prevent his client from resorting to any unfair or sharp practice. An Advocate is one who Is actually practising before the Courts which includes even those who are Law Officers appointed by Government or Body Corporate. Such Law Officers cannot be denied participation in recruitment process in Higher Judicial Service.
