The Right to Information Act, 2005 manifests an important weapon in the hands of Indian citizens, empowering them to seek any accessible information from a public authority, and making the Government and its functionaries more accountable and responsible.
Despite unmatched publicity having been given to this enactment, including a dedicated portal by the Government of India on right to information, still not many people are aware of the scope and extent of this right and the procedure for obtaining information. This book endeavors to overcome this difficulty, explaining the law and procedure relating to right to information in a lucid language, coherent manner and logical sequence.
The chapter 'Right to Information - A Resume', is the epitome of the subject and shall abreast the readers about the fundamentals underlying the law. The 'Procedure for Obtaining Information' has been discussed in the next chapter, whereas special provisions relating to "Third Party Information' have been discussed in a separate chapter. The redress al mechanism in the shape of 'Complaints' and 'Appeals' have been discussed in separate Chapters. 'Offences and Penalties' prescribed under the Act have been detailed in another chapter.
