Description
"Forensic science is not a monolithic entity. Rather, it is a collection of a wide variety of disciplines and techniques, each with its own particular strengths and limitations."
-Kathy Reichs (Renowned forensic anthropologist) The criminal justice system of any country plays a pivotal role in maintaining law and order, and ensuring justice is served. One of the key components of any criminal investigation is the use of Forensic Science. Forensic Science, which is the application of scientific methods and techniques to investigate crime scenes, has been an integral part of criminal investigations around the world for decades. Forensic experts use a wide range of techniques and technologies to analyze physical evidence such as DNA, fingerprints, fibers, and gunshot residue, among others. This evidence can be presented in court and used to establish guilt or innocence or to support other legal proceedings.
Like many other countries, India has been slow in integrating scientific methods into the criminal justice system. While the importance of forensic science cannot be denied, the use of these methods in India has been limited and often not up to international standards. In recent years, the Indian Judiciary has recognized the importance of Forensic Sciences and has taken steps to improve its use in criminal investigations and trials. In this book on "Compilation of Selected Cases on Forensic Sciences and Laws", we have compiled a collection of some selected landmark judgments that highlight the relevance and developments of Forensic Science in the Indian Criminal Justice System.
The cases showcased in the book covered a wide range of crimes, including murder, rape, and fraud. Each case has been selected for its significance in highlighting the importance of forensic science in criminal investigations. The cases are traced with changing attitude of judiciary and inclusion of technological evidence by forensic and legal professionals. The cases are presented in a manner that makes them accessible to a broad audience, including students, lawyers, and forensic experts. The aim of this book is not only to provide a comprehensive understanding of the role of Forensic Science in criminal investigations but also to create awareness about the importance of using scientific methods in criminal investigations in India. The book also highlights the need for standardization of forensic practices in India to bring them up to international standards.
