Article 39A of the Constitution of India enjoins that the State shall secure that the operation of the legal system promotes justice on a basis of equal opportunity. For the purposes of understanding the present day law, specially, the laws relating to Alternative Dispute Resolution, it is the duty of every law-abiding citizen to realise the law as a social institution to protect and promote the societal interest. True, the past decade has seen more ferment than any previous decade. It is therefore, time to ponder where we stand and what we are about in the dispute resolution system Almost all the chapters of this edition have been reorganized, re-edited and brought up-to-date. Three new chapters, namely, Online Alternative Dispute Resolution, Early Neutral Evaluation and Dar-ul-Qaza (Sharia Courts) as Alternative Dispute Redressal methods have been incorporated. The latest amendment of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act (Act 33 of 2019 dated 9th August 2019) revamping the original Act of 1996 as amended in 2015,  as been taken care of at appropriate places. In the second part of the work, section-wise discussion of the Gram Nyayalayas Act 2008 has been made for the members of the legal fraternity to understand the new concepts brought about by the Act. Besides incorporating available case laws, I have given my own views on many important aspects of the topics covered in the book.
