Description
In India, a Woman is seen as divine and worshiped as the embodiment of all the virtues on one hand but on the other hand she is discriminated against and victimised by the norms created by the male dominated society. She has not been given her due and legitimate place and status in the society even after all the civilization and cultural revolutions. No religion can boast about the equal rights given to the woman on par with the man in all respects. Unfortunately the man made Laws could not rectify the historical inequality where it is possible. This is the precise reason for making an endeavour to study the various laws pertaining to the woman and I have made a sincere effort to give a broad but brief picture about the laws relating to the woman in India. This book is the culmination of my humble effort in the above direction.
This book is primarily meant for LL.B., and LL.M., students of the Indian Universities including the Osmania University, Hyderabad which have introduced the subject o'f "Women and Law" as one of the subject in^their curriculum. It is, however hoped that it will also prove useful to the bar and also the womens rights groups. Aldous Huxley remarked that a bad book is as much a labour to write as a good one; k comes as sincerely from the authors' soul. I shall consider my efforts to have been rewarded if the book could be helpful to the students of the subject "Women and Law''.
I crave the indulgence of the readers of any error or imperfection which might have, despite the care and caution taken, crept in this book. I shall be glad to receive any fruitful and constructive suggestions for the improvement of this work.
