Description
Are men and women equal in status, whether women are respected at workplace or whether women are treated with respect and dignity at home and in society? Issues like these regarding women's safety and rights have always been an area of concern not only for ordinary women and their loved ones by also for law makers of our country. A nation's progress and prosperity can be judged by the way it treats its women folk. There is a slow and steady awareness regarding giving the women their dues, and not mistreating them, seeing them as objects of possession. Despite progress, the very fact that women, along with being achievers, also, are expected to fulfil their roles as wives or mothers, prioritizing home against anything else. However, the status of women in India has been subject to sea changes over centuries. From equal status with men in ancient times, through the low points of the medieval period, to the propagation of equal rights by modern reformers, the history of women in India has been eventful. The importance of women, their status and respect had been recognised by the society since olden times. But unfortunately, even after such recognition they had not been given their due status. From ancient India to modern India things have changed for women in a positive way but still there is an immense lack of respect for women. Their dignity as a human being still needs to be enhanced.
