This book is an attempt to bring out the truth about rape in society and that it is increasing at an alarming rate. It has focused on victims and followed them overtime, especially as they went through the proceedings of Criminal Justice System such as during the registration of FIR to the final hearing. The procedural rights guaranteed to victims by the Constitution of India were applied or violated in due course of proceedings It is a thorough study of the experiences of victims of a rape with the criminal justice process in working with them and their families. Besides the thorough examination of the experience of the victims, the book provides credible victimological and sociological insights. It has addressed the impediments that at present see relatively few rape victims seeking justice, and those that do, not getting it. This focus on the victim has practical import as well as an academic importance. It has explored the various aspects such as biological, sexual, social, and psychological relating to the rape crime and its victims so as to understand the phenomenon in detail. It has crime recommended certain possible preventive and rehabilitative measures to be made in to a policy to both ward off the crime to an extent, and to help the victim regain back her lost honor and dignity in the society. The findings of the present research study shall help in rectifying system and furnish guarantee a fair deal to the victims.

About the Author
Dr. Vibha Hetu is Assistant Professor at Jindal Global Law School (JGLS), O.P. Jindal Global University, Sonipat, Haryana. She is also Assistant Director for Centre for Victimology and Psychological Studies (CVPS). She has taught five subjects victimology, principles of criminology, restorative justice for crime victims, penology, and policing and law enforcement to students of B.A.LL.B., B.B.A.LL.B., LL.B. and LL.M. , She is also a guest lecturer at Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Science (NICFS), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, Delhi. She has delivered lectures to the students of M.A./M.Sc. Criminology. She has done her Masters in Criminology and PhD from the Department of Criminology, LNJN National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Science (NICFS), affiliated to Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU), Dwarka, Delhi. She is also a recipient of Government of India Fellowship Scheme for Doctoral Work in Criminology and Police Science from Bureau of Police Research and Development, (BPR&D). Her articles and crime-based stories have been published in the reputed journals and magazines. She has presented papers at various conferences and seminars. Her hobbies are reading books, watching movies and news channels, traveling, listening to music, writing diary and crime stories.
