Description
In his preface to the First Edition of "Jurisprudence and Legal Theory", late Dr V.D. Mahajan had expressed that the study of law must be given a due place it rightly deserved in free India. Today, the study of law has become very popular with more than 1600 centres of legal education functioning in the country and thousands of students taking up the study of law. The publication by EBC of this book, authored by Dr V.D. Mahajan, has tremendously helped the students studying law to overcome the jitters of studying this subject and also successfully passing in the same. This work has simplified the concepts and theories in a language every student of law can understand. The Bar Council of India has very rightly made the study of Jurisprudence compulsory and consequently, this book has helped all the stakeholders, the teachers, students and legal practitioners understand the subject and issues involved with ease and to their satisfaction. This book covers all the important theories of law and explains them in simple language keeping in view the developments in India  specially after coming into force of the Constitution of India, with special regard to the doctrines applied in deciding cases by the courts and the theoretical analysis by Indian legal experts. The discourse in the meaning of "Jurisprudence" is highly enlightening and creates the necessary spark for the reader to delve deep into the subject. This book also fulfils the desired need to have India-generated material incorporated in the relevant chapters as the time is ripe for locally evolved material in Legal Theory, to be usefully taught and studied in Law Schools and Centres of Legal Education, and at the same time depending less on foreign publications as was done for many years now. The addition of a new chapter on "Feminist Movement" with emphasis on the developments in India, in this edition, fulfils that objective.
