Many of us are familiar with the term saving, but the next logical step toward securing our future is investing. Investment management is the art and science of selecting, acquiring, managing, and disposing of investments in order to attain financial goals. However, it requires a lot of effort to master the skills required to invest in this VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, and Ambiguous) environment. Thus, in terms of investment, there is no better way to go ahead than to educate oneself. One must make sure you do their homework before making any
investments.
The motivation to write this book is the students. We have been teaching subjects like fundamentals of investment and financial planning for the past several years and have been doing research in similar domains. So, when the opportunity came it became our moral responsibility to share our knowledge and experience with all the students.
The present book titled "Investment Management" aims to offer its readers comprehensive insights on what, why, where, when, who, and how of investing. It includes the basics of investment, investment decision-making process, risk-return analysis, types of securities and their valuation techniques, portfolio creation and analysis, etc. The book is divided into 5 units which comprises of 11 Chapters each dwelling on key concepts of investment management.
Unit 1 i.e. Introduction to Investment comprises of Chapters 1 to 3. They provided an overview of the concept of investment, insights into the Indian securities market, and risk-return calculation.
Unit 2 i.e. Bond Analysis and Valuation comprises of Chapter 4. It offers detailed knowledge of fixed-income securities, their type, and valuation methods.

Dr. Vanita Tripathi was Professor at Department of Commerce, Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi and Deputy Dean at University of Delhi, was Double Gold Medalist in B.Com. (H) and M.Com. and an alumnus of Shri Ram College of Commerce and Delhi School of Economics. She was M.Phil. topper of her batch. She had a teaching experience of more than 17 years in the area of Investment Management. She was also M.Phil. - Finance area coordinator. She was the recipient of BEST BUSINESS ACADEMIC OF THE YEAR (BBAY) AWARD & GOLD MEDAL in year 2012 & prestigious PROF. MANUBHAI M. SHAH MEMORIAL RESEARCH AWARD & GOLD MEDAL in year 2014 and Ten Best Research Paper Awards at various International Conferences. She was MOOC Coordinator and Paper coordinator of Financial Management of M.Com. under e-PG PATHSHALA project of UGC under the NMEICT initiative of Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India for developing e-content for post graduate courses in India. She published her work in Annals of Financial Economics in which Nobel Laureate, Prof. Harry Markowitz also published his research work. She was actively engaged in teaching and research activities she has published 4 books and 78 research papers in reputed international and national journals. Her areas of interest include market efficiency, socially responsible inves- ting, corporate finance and asset pricing.
Prof. (Dr.) Amit Kumar Singh is a Professor in the Department of Commerce, Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi. An alumnus of Kirori Mal College and Department of Commerce, Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi, he is also a gold medalist in the M.Com. Examination of the University of Delhi. A recipient of various medals and prizes at the postgraduate level, he completed his M.Phil. and Ph.D. from the Department of Commerce, Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi. He specializes in the area of Finance and Investment Management and Initial Public Offerings and has a teaching experience of more than twenty years. He has authored/co-authored 10 books and has more than 1-6 100 research papers published in his credit. He has presented many papers at national and international conferences. Prior to joining the Department, he taught at Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, University of Delhi for about twelve years. He recently received a Distinguished Alumni Award from Kirori Mal College.
Prof. Singh holds several key positions across various institutions.
He is the University of Delhi. He serves as Joint Director at the Delhi School of currently a Member of the Financial Literacy Committee constituted by Public Policy and Governance (DSPPG), an Institute of Eminence at the University of Delhi, and is the Chairman of the VKRV Rao Hostel, University of Delhi. He has also been nominated as a member of the University's Internal Complaint Committee. He is currently a member of the Governing Body at Miranda House and Hansraj College, University of Delhi. He was also former Chairperson of Gargi College, University of Delhi. In addition, he is a member of the Board of Studies for several universities, including t Central University of Haryana; Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Jind; Kumaun University, Nainital; Jagan Institute of Management Studies; GL Bajaj Institute of Management; and Jamia Millia Islamia University. He is a life member of the Indian Accounting Association and Indian Commerce Association.
Dr. Vandana Jain is an Associate Professor in the Department of Commerce, at Shri Ram College of Commerce, University of Delhi, with a teaching experience of more than 17 years. She has been teaching the undergraduate programme, B.Com. (H) at SRCC from the last 17 years and Post Graduate Diploma Programme, GBO at SRCC from the last decade.
She is an alumnus of Hansraj College, Delhi University and has completed her Ph.D. from Department of Commerce, University of Delhi in the field of International Business. Her areas of interest include Investment Management, Financial Management, International Business and Entrepreneurship development. She has authored books on subjects like Entrepreneurship Development and New Venture Planning. Several of her research papers have been published in international and national research Journals. Two of her research papers have been awarded the best paper award at international conferences held at Rwanda (2017) and Delhi (2024) respectively.
