Description
No decision in recent times has drawn more attention than the dispute relating to the Ram Janmabhumi case involving claims to the place which many believed to be the birthplace of Lord Ram and which was also claimed to be a place where a Mosque existed.
Complicated questions of law were debated during the marathon hearings in the Supreme Court and finally resolved by a unanimous decision of the Constitution Bench of five Judges which included the Chief Justice of India. For all the issues discussed in the learned judgment, it has immense legal and historical value and is of interest not only to lawyers and Judges but also for laymen and scholars from other fields keen to understand the true nature of the controversy and how it has been resolved; not on ground of faith but on established principles of property law as a civil suit. We are, therefore, pleased to make available the entire judgment in a separate volume. Also included, is the elaborate headnote that summarises all the facts, issues and the points of law, and the case-law and reference materials relied upon. It also carries a subject index for pointed search on any point of law. As usual, this reprint carries the headnote and the text of the judgment identical in every respect as published in Supreme Court Cases as M. Siddiq (Ram Janmabhumi Temple-5 J.) v. Suresh Das reported at (2020) 1 SCC 1, and can therefore be cited as a law report.
