Description
This book is to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Sir Asutosh Mookerjee, one of India's greatest sons . His life and work covered a very wide gamut of activities-mathematics, law, education, public life. While the first volume contains a fairly comprehensive biographical sketch and articles on Sir Asutosh as also some of his well known speeches and writings, this volume is devoted to his work as a judge. Contained herein are some of his classic judgments in full, with editorial notes, excerpts from some other judgments and eminently quotable quotations.
He raised the standards of judging and writing judgments to levels hardly reached before, thereby substantially expanding the universe of judicial discourse. He authored about 2500 judgments covering every branch of law. They bear the unmistakable impress of his personality- great erudition, broad outlook, deep study, precise and full exposition and tireless striving aimed at perfection. He adapted the law to meet the felt necessities of the time and the society.
The book is an excellent timely reminder of the indelible imprints he has left on our jurisprudence, lighting the judicial landscape with his radiance.
