Description
This book is brought out after decades of experience in the vast field of Investigation, by the author. His selection of the subject is with a view to update all those in the field of investigation with the scientific methods of conducting examination of each and every clue found to connect the criminal with the offence and the victim. The changing trend of human nature has become undependable and relying on eyewitnesses is no longer possible. In such circumstances only circumstantial evidence has to be relied upon. The book contains information regarding various connecting clues, how to locate, collect, preserve and use them to prove the acts of criminal in committing the offence. Specific characteristic features of weapons, their way of using, and source of procuring them are also discussed to benefit the reader.
The book 'Scientific Criminal Investigation' has three major parts.
Part I has 13 chapters wherein basic aspects of scientific inputs are discussed. Part II has 17 chapters which has topics a normal investigator is familiar with. They pertain to usual clue materials.
Part III has 7 chapters wherein offences like murder; bride burning, sexual offences and the like which are against a body of a person are elaborately discussed.
The book is written in a very simple language which can be easily understood even by a layman. It has lot of case histories, real life examples, charts, tables, sketches, photographs and covers the syllabi of Police Training Colleges and Schools of all states, National Police Academies, Central Detective Training Schools etc. The book shall prove useful for Professional Investigators, Training Personnel, Judges, Lawyers, Police Training Colleges, Libraries and all concerned with subject of Criminal Investigation.

Author Details
Dr. B.R. Sharma
has his basic education in chemistry. He worked for M.Sc. (Hons.) and Ph.D. in Delhi University Laboratories after obtaining his B.Sc. (Hons.) degree from Punjab University.
Dr. Sharma, just before completion of his Ph.D. degree, was selected as Director, C.I.D. Scientific Laboratory, Punjab at the age of 26. Dr. Sharma has been heading, since then, various Forensic Science Institutions, (State F.S.L. in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Union Territories; CFSL, (GOL, MHA), Chandigarh, etc.). He retired in September 1993.
Dr. Sharma has his rigorous training in documents in Scotland and has been a teacher in Forensic Science for about three decades. His appointments include Honorary Visiting Professor to Punjab University, Guest faculty member to Punjabi University, Patiala, Dr. H.S. Gaur University, Sagar, National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Science, Central Detective Training School and numerous zonal/Regional Staff Training Colleges of various Banks (SBI, PNB, Canara Bank, SBOP, P&S Bank, Former NBI, etc.).
Dr. Sharma has done extensive research work. His researches in the identification of initials, digital writings, rubrics and symbols through Natural Variants remains unique piece of research in documents examination. He has guided doctoral thesis research. He has authored in about 100 papers /articles both in Indian and foreign journals.
His other works are: Forensic Science in Criminal Investigation & Trials, Firearms in Criminal Investigation and Trials, Bank Frauds-Prevention and Detection, Footprints Tracks and Trails, Genie against Crime, etc.
