Description
This fifth edition of CIF and FOB Contracts comes a full 17 years from its last revision and it is the first not edited by Professor David Sassoon. A lot has changed since 1995: the world has seen a steady increase in containerised transport while a long period of economic growth followed by a very steep recession has contributed to dramatic changes in international commerce and the attitude of traders and financiers towards risk. A lot has also changed in the law of export and import trade with new safety and security regulations having been introduced worldwide. At international level, these changes are reflected in two new editions of the Incoterms, in 2000 and 2010, a new version of the Uniform Customs and Practice for Documentary Credits, new standard form contracts and a number of new contractual clauses attempting to deal with the new environment. At national level, a number of important decisions of the English Courts in the law of sales, carriage of goods by sea, banking and transport documents, accompanied by a steady flow of decisions of the European Court of Justice on conflicts and jurisdictional issues have affected this exciting and important area of commercial law. Hence, the decision that a new edition of this work would be welcome to its user and make a good addition to this British Shipping Law series.
