Description
It is rare that a young lawyer faces the task of editing a book that is an "authority" on the subject. The daunting task then is to ensure that the book not only maintains its standards but also scales further heights. My task has been greatly lightened by Mr. Sarkar's willingness to put his vast learning and experience at my disposal, while at the same time, encouraging me to feel entirely free to make any changes that I saw fit, I first met Mr. Sarkar about 7 years ago when my (then) firm was briefing him in a matter, I had just returned from Oxford and was smitten by the common law. During the course of the briefing, we discussed the early cases in English law on the subject and I was  astonished by Mr. Sarkar's ability to recollect and dissect intricate nuances of the law. Since then, Mr. Sarkar has been a steady source of guidance in my career - his most important piece of advice being to maintain an academic focus even while practising. Years down the line, and after a short stint as an Assistant Professor at OP Jindal University, I was delighted when he offered me the opportunity to edit this book. I only hope that I have managed to live up to his expectations,
