Description
Registration of the documents are done by the Statutory Authorities appointed under the Act. The key purpose of registration of a document is that it provides a conclusive proof of genuineness of documents and it affords publicity of transaction in respect of properties. Registration of documents are done also with an intention to prevent fraud. It also affords facility for ascertaining whether a property has already been dealt with and it also provides for security of the title deeds and facility of proving titles in case the original deeds are lost or destroyed. The functioning of the Registration Department was started in the year 1865 r Malabar Area, from 1868 in Travancore Area, and from 1875 in Cochin area. The three units have been integrated to form the present Registration Department with the formation of the Kerala State from 1st November, 1956. The Registration Act, 1908 was also enforced in the State from 1956.
