Description
Ratanlal and Dhirajlal's the Code of Criminal Procedure is the pioneer work on the Law of Criminal Procedure. Ever since its first edition in the year 1930, the book enjoys the reputation of being the most authorative commentary on the subject. The commentary is unique in its precision, carries easy readability, critical analysis and is well-accepted treatise on the subject.  During the period 2020-2021 the entire country faced the trauma of COVID 19 and was in complete lockdown. People all over India had to be confined in their houses. In Courts problem arose regarding extension of remand in criminal cases and injunction/stay orders in civil cases. Confronted with this abnormal situation the Supreme Court in Suo Motu CrPC of 2020, passed order that period of limitation in all such proceedings, irrespective of the limitation period prescribed under the general or Special Laws whether condonable or not shall stand extended w.e.f. 15 March 2020 till further orders to be passed by the Court in the present proceedings. The Court passed this order exercising powers under Article 142 read with Article 141 of the Constitution and declared that this order is binding order within the meaning of Article 141 on all Courts/Tribunals and authorities.
