Description
Our Privacy is not invulnerable: the data tracks we leave through our health information the internet and social, media, financial, information, and personal relationships make us continuously prey to identify  theft, hacking, and even government surveillance. In Privacy: What Everyone Needs to Know, Leslie P. and John G. Francis draw upon their joint expertise in Law, philosophy, political science, regulatory policy, and bioethics to parse the consequences of privacy's forfeiture; and instruct how to protect oneself in the digital age. ''This is an excellent book, both thoughtful and expansive for anyone interested in privacy. It discusses privacy as it relates to concepts such as security and autonomy in decision making. Assessing the state of privacy in this changing technological era, the book addresses privacy questions for individuals, families and other groups, with detailed attention to personal information, health care, education, employment and other financial issues, law enforcement, the internet and social media, and the importance of privacy in a democracy. The book gives a very balanced treatment of alternative views in each of these areas emphasizing the multiple ways protection of privacy can vary substantially in different spheres of our lives. The authors have strong expertise in both philosophy and law, which is increasingly necessary in any discussion of the value of privacy in these multiple contexts.''
