Description
When the commissioning editor of LexisXexis put the last edition of this book in my hand to elicit a response if I would edit this book, I realised that I could not get hold of the book because of its bulk! My first question was, would she mind if I trim down the size to its essentials. In the year 1997, when Prof Madhava Menon had, in his words of appreciation, commented that the book was nearly 600 pages and perhaps more than the size of the conventional text books, I was wondering what he would have said when the subsequent editions carried the size of the book to more than 1800 pages, three times the size of the 199"7 edition. Dr Avatar Singh, the editor-in-chief of the seventh edition had given a structure to the book outlining the statutory coverage through study of case law and made the reading comprehensive with expansion of headings and subheadings. A more detailed subject index and table of statutes were to help the reader track the diffusion of the wide canvas containing several statutes dovetailed to what was still relevant to a better understanding of the law of insurance. An enlarged appendix in the seventh edition was justification for bringing to the reader, in one volume several other relevant legislation besides subsidiary pieces of administrative instructions, circulars and regulations that affected the subject o£ insurance.

This edition also includes new commentary on important and emerging areas of insurance such as tax planning in insurance business, nuclear insurance, aviation insurance, agricultural insurance and medical insurance.
The Insurance Laws (Amendment) Act, 2015 has brought in major reforms in the insurance law. The amendments in insurance law and case law development have been meticulously captured in this edition. It also contains various new policies, regulations, standard insurance forms under general insurance and detailed information on the practices and procedures relating to insurance law.
