Description
In 2016, an Expert Committee was appointed by the Government of India to evaluate the Specific Relief Act 1963, and make recommendations for changes to the law to enable "enforceability of contracts and other reliefs provided thereunder in the context of tremendous developments which have taken place since 1963, and the present changed scenario involving contract based infrastructure developments, public private partnerships and other public projects, involving huge investments" . The recommendations of the Expert Committee had not been implemented as of the last edition of this commentary which was published by 2017. Since then several of the recommendations of the Expert Committee were considered, and extensive amendments were brought to the Specific Relief Act by the Specific Relief (Amendment) Act, 2018. This edition has been published to incorporate these important amendments.
