Description
I was delighted to be asked again to prepare a new edition of William Rose's fine book. I thoroughly endorse all that Stuart Sime says in his excellent Foreword: this book is intended to complement the excellent manuals prepared and provided by his institution and the other excellent law schools. I knew  William a little, both as a judge and as a fellow attendee at numerous Judicial Studies Board (now Judicial College) courses. He was both intelligent and well informed, but above all, he was very engaging company: any reader of this volume will soon readily understand that. This remains William's book, and I have sought to do nothing to alter his very individual style. My role has principally been to update it, refreshing all the examples to bring them within the relevant limitation periods and to reflect any changes in practice, procedure, and substantive law since 2012. I have largely excised the references to pre-CPR practice, it being positively pre-history to the current reader, leaving only those which I consider remain relevant today, and I have added a few additional practical thoughts arising from over 17 years of experience under the CPR, both as a barrister and now on the receiving end of pleadings, skeleton arguments, etc. as a Queen's Bench Master. I am very grateful for the immense help I have had from Faye Mousley and Liana Green of Oxford University Press in steering me through the editorial process. I am also very grateful to Paul Skinner of Henderson Chambers, without whose immense help my total lack of knowledge of Landlord and Tenant law would have been all too apparent. Finally, I again thank Sue Rose for trusting me with the task.
