Description

This is my fourth edition of Phipson since becoming general editor for the sixteenth edition in 2005. The aim is to keep to a four or five year cycle with supplements between editions. I am pleased to say that we have retained the same academics and practitioners. My friend and mentor in all aspects of criminal law, especially complex financial cases, Douglas Day QC has retained from the bar, but fortunately not from his valuable contribution to various chapters on criminal trials. Deirdre Dwyer's chapter on statistical and survey evidence introduced for the first time in the last edition has proved to be a tour de force, and she has expanded upon her earlier work for this chapter. All chapters are updated for this edition. Some chapters have been the subject of extensive updating, such as bad characters covered by Peter Mirfield, which repeatedly and frequently comes before the Court of Appeal.
