Description
Penology is the study of the punishment of crime and of prison management. It refers to the study of the punishment of crime, in both its deterrent and its reformatory aspects. It studies the infliction and execution of punishment for the commission of crimes. On the other hand, victimology is one of the subparts of the penology. It is a scientific study of physical, emotional and financial harm suffered because of criminal activities. While imposing punishments, the court should keep in mind the victim and his or her dependants. Victimology is the study of the victims of crime and the psychological effects of their experience. In other words, it is a scientific study of physical, emotional, and financial harm people suffer because of illegal activities. Victimization is an asymmetrical interpersonal relationship that is abusive, painful, destructive, parasitical, and unfair. Victims are the individuals who experience loss, injury, or hardship for any reason. Victimology is a science of sufferings and resultant compensation.
