Description
The Payment of Wages Act, 1936 is one of the oldest labour law legislations in India which was enacted to give employees various benefits and regulate the payment of salaries by the employers. In a fast changing economy the needs of the workers as well as the industry are constantly changing which forces the courts to keep reinterpreting the provisions of existing legislations in newer contexts. This has also led to a large number of cases under the Payment of Wages Act, 1936 being decided by the courts in India. It was due to this increase in the number of cases on the Payment of Wages Act, 1936 and the various interpretations given by these cases as well as amendments to the various Rules promulgated under the Act, that the publishers felt the need to revise and update this book Commentaries on Payment of Wages Act, 1936 with the latest case laws and amendments. This book contains cases till June, 2023 from the major labour law journals of the country as well as the major rules and regulations such as the Payment of Wages (Procedure) Rules, 1937, the Payment of Wages (Railways) Rules, 1938, the Payment of Wages (Mines) Rules, 1956, the Payment of Wages (Air Transport Services) Rules, 1968 etc. as amended by the respective Amendment Rules of 2019.
The publishers therefore feel that this book will be extremely useful for Employers, Employees, Trade Unions, Lawyers, Industrial Tribunals, Labour Courts and all those dealing with Labour Laws.
We hope this book will serve its patrons well. Any suggestions for the improvement of this book would be greatly welcome.
