Description
The 3rd Revised Edition of Nabhi's Handbook for NGOs was published in April 2012, incorporating the latest changes in the law relating to formation and management of NGOs and the upto date revised funding schemes of various Ministries/ Departments. Encouraged by the overwhelming response from our readers we have been compelled to reprint the book, incorporating the amendments relating to income tax, wealth-tax and service tax as per Finance Act, 2015 and the new procedure for obtaining a license by a charitable company under the new Company Law. With pleasure we now present this 2016 reprint edition of Nabhi's HANDBOOK FOR NGOs.
About the Book
The earlier editions of Nabhi's Handbook of NGOs, received wide appreciation not only from voluntary agencies and social workers who are actually involved in social upliftment but even from various funding and support agencies, institutions and international bodies. With the affection bestowed from all corners the book has established as the best seller for NGOs. The book has been written/compiled keeping in mind the various issues concerning and the problems being faced by NGOs in their operations. The initial chapters of the book provide complete information on formation of NGOs, including various legal formalities, documentation, registration, raising funds from Govt. and other sources both within and outside India, management, meetings, resolutions, minutes, accounts, audit and other day to day work. The chapter on 'Project Formulation and Proposal which incorporates guidelines and templates for 12 major illustrative projects, will serve as a good guide for NGOs in preparation of a proposal for raising funds for a project. "Project Implementation' has been made a separate chapter, further strengthened with more practical illustrations on implementing the project activities. Taxation is a universal trait and NGOs are no exception. However, Government allows certain exemptions to charitable institutions. The tax exemptions and liabilities of NGOs have been discussed under Chapters on Income-Tax Exemptions for NGOs, Approval for Deduction u/s 80G, TDS, NGOs and Sales Tax, NGOs and Value Added Tax (VAT), NGOs and Service Tax and Wealth Tax, etc. Changes in Taxation of NGOs as per Finance Act, 2015 have been incorporated at all appropriate places. Besides, various laws have been enacted to protect rights of certain vulnerable sections of the society such as women, children, scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, old age persons, disabled persons, etc. Further, certain laws deal with various social evils like drugs, prostitution, animal cruelty, food adulteration, environment pollution, etc. NGOs can take recourse to these laws in discharging their objectives effectively. Such laws have been discussed in a separate chapter namely 'Laws
assisting NGOs'. an not 2005 has created an effective
