Description
The Indian Lunacy Act 1912 having been long out of date due to changed conditions required a thorough revamping. The Mental Health Act 1987 came into force and is far more relevant and revealing. The Act deals with the "rights" and "property" of persons of unsound mind not in a position to protect and manage them. The new Act maintains uniformity in terms of the law applicable in respect to rights of mentally unsound persons, institutions for the "cure and care" of such persons, rules for the establishment of these institutions, their registration and recognition, rules for admission and discharge or release of these persons and handing over custody to the care of their relatives. The current edition carries a totally new commentary on the new Act with a different approach to its provisions. The Mental Health Act, 2nd Edition is more comprehensive and analytical and will be useful to people or establishments dealing with persons of unsound mind. The-book will be useful to practicing lawyers and mental asylums as also institutions dealing with persons of unsound mind.
