Description
An overwhelming response to the first edition compelled to this enlarged and revised edition.
Media law is an ever evolving subject. There is renewed demand for a far stricter control over the media and the journalists but the constitutional safeguards prevent taking any drastic measures.
" The electronic and the internet have taken over the print media. As the impact of the electronic and internet is immediate and felt far and wide, there is a need for self regulation on the part of those involved in it and for those who produce the breaking news several times a day. It is essential that those who cover the news are not motivated by TRP alone. The need to curb the urge to sensationalise every item has to be curbed.
The number of channels is growing fast and unchecked. The power of media and in particular electronic is so immense that business houses are getting into it with hardly any public interest in mind. There is a growing demand that it should be brought under the Press Council or some similar body for its proper regulation. This requires serious consideration.
This edition has covered some of the important decisions which were left out for want of space and all the case law have been included of the various Press statutes. Cases are included from foreign jurisdic¬tions; the chapter on Parliamentary Privileges has been thoroughly
revised and enlarged.
It can be safely said that it is a complete book covering all aspects of Media Law.
