Description
The primary role of Judges and Lawyers is to uphold rule of law and Constitution. The chariot of justice advances on two wheels, namely, the Bench (i.e. Judges) and the Bar (i.e. Advocates). Both are equal partners in administration of justice. The Advocates, however,  shoulder a greater responsibility as they are supposed to assist the court in reaching a lawful decision in a matter. The Advocates profess law and are part of legal profession. The legal profession is an esteemed profession. It is necessary to save it from being contaminated so that its purity remains. For this purpose, the Bar Council of India has formulated the Rules known as "Bar Council of India Rules, 1975" in exercise of powers conferred on it by the Advocates Act, 1961. These rules especially those relating to standards of professional conduct and etiquette, aim at securing high standards of competence in legal services. Specific norms have been laid down in respect of conduct of the persons practicing this profession. At the same time, it is also necessary to uphold the majesty and dignity of the courts in the eyes of public at large. Therefore any act on the part of any Advocate or any other person which tends to lower the image of the court is made punishable under the "Contempt of Courts Act, 1971." The present 12th edition of the book has been thoroughly revised and updated. Latest and landmark judgments of the Supreme Court and High Courts have been incorporated at appropriate places in this book. Simplicity of language and lucidity of presentation are chief characteristics of this book.
