Description
The present subject 'Law and medicine' also known as 'health law' in some universities, is one of the most important branches of law prescribed for study as an optional/ compulsory paper for law degree (both 3 & 5 years) courses in Indian Universities. It has been introduced recently by the Bar Council of India, the apex regulatory authority of legal education in India to visualize the inter-relation and casual connection between the two prestigious professions of great public importance, law and medicine. The purpose of any branch of Law is to regulate the human conduct of all professionals viz, legal, medical, engineering etc., and several legislations, general and special have been passed to that effect. Whereas, the law of medicine is that branch of law, which prescribed various rights, duties and responsibilities of the members of the medical profession and also prescribe punishment for violation of such rights, duties and responsibilities by doctors and all the concerned in the medical field including patients.
