Description
Law may be broadly categorised into: (i) Substantive Law; and (ii)Procedural Law or Adjectival Law.    The substantive law ler statute law or common-law) defines what facts go to constitute a right or liability. Adjective law is one by which substantive law is applied to particular cases.   It is also known as Law of Procedure". The -present subject, Law of Evidence is one of the most important branches of procedural law prescribed for study as compulsory paper in the B.L./LL.B (Both 3 years & 5 years degree) course in all the Indian Universities. In India, the law relating to principles of Evidence is governed by the Indian Evidence Act, which was passed in 1872 and came into force from 1st September, 1872. Though the Act was passed in 19th Century, it has been serving the purpose till date (21st Century) to the best satisfaction of all concerned despite changing needs from time to with very few amendments.
