Description
Law cannot be divided into 'Law relating to men' and 'law relating to women' as law of any Country is applicable to all persons i.e., male and female. Whatever law applicable to men is also applicable to women equally. However, some enactments may be intended to exclusively women to uplift the dignity and status of women in society. Hence, enactments relating to women are of two kinds, one equally applicable to both women and men and the another specially intended to women only. In India there are nearly fifty Acts (see Bibliography) which are applicable to women. The contents of 'Law Relating to Women' has been presented in this volume under five units-(i) Status of Women; (ii) Personal Laws of Women -Laws relating to Marriage, Divorce, Succession and Maintenance; (iii) Offences against Women; (iv) Socio-legal position of Women; and (v) Social Security Measures and the Position of Women under International Instruments. In this edition the latest Acts such as-The Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2018 (No. 22 of 2018), The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, and Rules, 2020, Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019 have been dealt with to make the subject upto-date.
