Description
The term 'discipline' is used to connote different meanings, depending upon the context, including that of self-control and a way of life. But in matters relating to employer-employee relationship, disciplinary action means and includes all those steps that can be taken to keep the employees perform their duties by strictly observing their conditions of service. An employer employs an employee to get a given work done or a particular task carried out with utmost sincerity, diligence and honesty and not in a manner which may bring in undesirable results or otherwise blemish the reputation of the employer. If the employer is not satisfied with the work done by its employee, in terms of the quality or quantity thereof, on account of negligence or at times deliberate wrongful behavior, he has a right to pursue his statutory remedies including that of taking disciplinary action in appropriate cases.
