Description
The Law relating to Christians in India is a subject concerned with one of the important minority groups of Indian society. The foreign rule, the impact thereof and the origin and the deep rooting of the Christian religion in some quarters of this country, these aspects are well known. Several of the Legislations were introduced from time to time in relation to the Christians. There are certain decided cases in relation to conversion into Christianity and coming back to the Hindu fold or to the other religious faiths and the effect or the impact thereof and the legal consequences which may flow therefrom. There are certain Legislations dealing with the prohibition of such forcible conversions. A couple of decided cases of the Apex Court also are available in relation thereto. In this short commentary, the different facets of Law governing the Christians in India had been dealt with. The Indian Christian Marriage Act, Indian Divorce Act, Indian Succession Act and several other Legislations concerned with Christians had been incorporated apart from the Rules framed under such Legislations. Though a sincere attempt was made to cover all the aspects, as far as the internal administration and management of the respective Churches and the relevant Constitutions or Bye-Laws of the respective Churches, these aspects are concerned, they being too numerous and totally different from one area to yet another area, the same had not been touched ir this book though these aspects also may have some relevance. It is no doubt true that this book cannot be said to be an exhaustive commentary on the subject, but definitely it can be said to be a good guide.
