Description
The measuring of a tract of land, its boundaries and contents is called survey. In ancient India reference to documentation of survey was found. During the period of Sher Shah it reached its peak by systemization. Akbar, the Mughal Emperor with the help of Todarmal, one of his ministers, developed it further into a compact system. Land survey got the modern scientific touch in the British period.
Dividing the whole gamut of the subject into 11 chapters, beginning with Terminology' and concluding with 'Court's Order', the author has discussed almost all the branches relating to survey. Chapter on Terminology interprets the terms often used by persons like amin, engineer, etc. The next chapter 'Survey Instruments' gives a broad idea of the instruments with pictures that are used in survey. Chapters on Chain Survey and Plane Table Survey deal with different methods of survey. River Survey, Survey of Sloping Ground, etc. are explained at length in those chapters.
