Description
Kumar's Petroleum Laws had made its first appearance in 1996 and needs no introduction to its learned readers. The book has deservedly earned for itself a place of pride in the history of legal literature by selling 3 editions with a couple of reprints in the last 2 decades. It is a rare, notable and enduring example of iilluminating, masterly, critical and analytical exposition of a subject to all pervasive importance. The demand for Petroleum Products is linked with the energy requirements of the country, which is a function of the country and level of economic activity as measured by the G.D.P. Presently India is undergoing major economic and industrial reforms for integrating its economy with the global economy. In the liberalised scenario, the Hydrocarbon sector has been identified as one of the main areas of the focus. Major policy changes are planned for the vital sector to make the Oil Industry globally competitive. With the reforms package formulated and expected high growth in all economic sectors, the demand for Petroleum products is expected to show a compound growth of about 7%. In absolute terms, the demand for Petroleum Products has risen from the present level of 80 million tonnes to over 155 million tonnes per annum. A Petroleum Refinery is an installation that manufactures finished petroleum product from crude oil, unfinished oils, natural gas liquids, other hydrocarbons, and alcohol. Refined petroleum products include, but are not limited to gasolines. kerosene, distillate fuel oils (including No.2 fuel oil). liquefied petroleum gas, asphalt, lubricating oils, diesel fuels and residual fuels. The physical characteristics of crude oils differ. Crude oil with a similar mix of physical and chemical characteristic, usually produced from a given reservoir. field. or sometimes even a region, constitutes a crude oil stream. Most simply, crude oils are classified by their density and sulfur content. Some crude oils, also have a higher sulfur content, an undesirable characteristics with respect to both of processing and product quality.
