Description
The production of the third edition of Jowitt was a major undertaking owing to the more than 30 years allowed to elapse since the previous edition. Happily, that gap has not been repeated, and the work involved in preparing the fourth edition has therefore been much more manageable. As a result, it was not necessary to reassemble a team of the size that produced the third edition; although, as most of the work of that team remains in the present edition, updated as necessary, I have reproduced below the list of editors of the third edition, who remain entitled to great credit for the impressive updating work that they achieved in preparing that edition. I have also reproduced the forewords and preface to the last edition, the changes in which were much more significant than the changes in this edition. The editorial policy remains as stated in the preface to the third edition. The production of the fourth edition, by checking the last edition for currency and by adding significant terms found in new legislation and elsewhere, has been accomplished in a challengingly short period by a team of three: Klara Banaszak, as Deputy Editor, and Yisroel Greenberg, as Assistant Editor, working under my overall direction. I am enormously indebted to them for the dedication and skill with which they have performed their tasks, and hope that they will be proud of the result. I, of course, remain responsible for errors and omissions, which are inevitable in a work of this kind; information about either will be gratefully received and will be reflected in the next edition, or by supplement.
