Description
Drafting of a statute is a complex exercise or has been made complex by men who do it. Every profession does it things in a manner which makes it beyond the realm of the common man. So it is with the legal profession in general and interpretation of statutes, in particular.
English, it has been said is not a mathematical like exact science. Judges have over the year developed several doctrines to understand the statute under consideration. Judges are essentially in the business of doing justice in a given situation. Many a times in doing situational justice the words of the statute do not come to the assistance of the judicial process. The words are required to be mended or stretched resulting in a doctrine of interpretation.
The subject 'Interpretation of Statutes' to say the least is extremely interesting and stimulating. The book is a modest attempt to state the law as it is found in the law reports and classics on the subject. English and American law have been extensively used.
