Description
The Legislature makes the law. It opens its mind through the language used in the statute. The words employed in the language themselves declare the intention of Legislature. Nevertheless, the intention becomes doubtful when the words are susceptible to more than one meaning. In that case, it becomes necessary to ascertain the sense in which the word is used by the Legislature The process of interpretation commences at this juncture.
The rules of interpretation are not enacted laws, but have been derived from the observations made and ratios laid down by Supreme Court and High Courts in various decisions. Therefore, up-to-date knowledge of the judgments is essential.
With this object, the sixth edition of my book "Interpretation of Statutes" is being presented in your hands. This book was my first endeavor as author published in 2006 by Central Law Publications, Allahabad. It received overwhelming response which is apparent from the fact that in a span of fourteen years, its sixth edition is ready. In fact, it would have been brought out about one year back but for the pandemic of COVID 19 and consequent imposition of nation-wide lock down.
