Description
Articles 216 to 226

This Volume takes care of only twelve Articles, namely, 216,217,218,219,220,222,223, 224, 224A, 225 and 226, which is fewer than the number of Articles accommodated in the earlier volumes. The reason for this is that it covers Article 226. This is not to diminish the importance of the other Articles included in this Volume. It is necessary to mention that Article 221 has not been dealt with in this Volume as it has already been covered in the previous volume. However, I do not consider it necessary to say anything in relation to Article 226 because of the "Overview" of the Article which is much more elaborate than the other Articles. I would request the readers to refer to that "Overview" instead of suffering a repetition here. The other Articles have their own importance of which Articles 217 (Appointment and Conditions of the office of a Judge of a High Court), 222 (Transfer of a Judge from one High Court to another) and 225 (Jurisdiction of existing High Courts) deserve special mention as it will be seen that the interpretation of these Articles by the Supreme Court truly reflects the extent to which they have evolved over the years. Many of the relevant cases for Articles 216-224Ahave already been set out in the previous volume and therefore, we have chosen not to repeat the extracts in this Volume.
