Description
The first edition of Construction Professional Indemnity Insurance was published in November 2017 following the Grenfell Tower fire on 14 June 2017. The fire and loss of life led to a public enquiry which is ongoing and to significant developments in the regulation of the construction of buildings includ- ing the Fire Safety Act 2021 and the Building Safety Act 2022. Reform is welcome, albeit the construction industry faces the challenge of its implementation.
During the same period, the construction insurance market has hardened with higher premiums and more limited cover available. It is hoped that the reforms will bring fewer claims, lower premiums and wider cover.
This edition would not have been possible without the help of the contributors from Gatehouse Chambers and Phebe Mann, who is the principal researcher for the second edition.
I have aimed to state the law as at 1 May 2022.
