Description
The revised edition contains same topics as the earlier one, but with a
difference. Two new chapters, namely, “Progressive Era and Civil Rights
Movement in the US” and “International Relations World Hotspots” have
been added. The former highlights the importance of leadership that has
made the US a great democracy. The events described in the latter cast a
deep shadow on achieving enduring peace and security in the world,
Terrorism has not been dealt with adequately by the UN for making the
world a safer place, and hence underscoring the need to reorganize and
strengthen the UNSC. The rise and fall of the Islamic State tells us
about the dangers posed by religious fanaticism. Cold War of the 20th
century has been replaced by the trade war between the US and China with
cascading effects on the global economy. Climate change agreements,
including the Paris Agreement (2015), concluded in the recent past have
been discussed in the chapter on “Environmental Challenges”. It is hoped
that the implementation of these agreements by member nations will
reduce global warming and save our planet from impending catastrophe.
The complications arising out of the UK’s exit from the EU (Brexit) have
been examined in the chapter titled “The European Union”.
