Description
The object of General Clauses Act, 1897 is to consolidate and shorten the language of statutory enactments and to provide for uniformity of expressions in cases where there is identity of subject matter. The object of this Act of 1897 is to place in one single enactment different provisions regarding interpretation of words and legal terms which otherwise have to be specified separately in many different Acts, Rules and Regulations. Although Courts are not concerned with the policy of the Legislature or with the result of giving effect to the language of the statute, it is their duty to ascertain the meaning and intention of the Legislature. In during so the Courts will always presume that the impugned provision was designed to  effectuate a particular object or to meet a particular requirement and not that it was intended to negative that which it sought to achieve. The second edition of this book was published in the year 2015. All important judgments have been inserted in third edition. To err is human and perfection is Divine. Esteemed readers are implored to draw our attention so that they are corrected in the next edition. We hope that the book would prove immensely usefull to the Bench and Bar, students and academicians and public at large.
