Description
Much has happened in the media since the last edition was published in 2013. The world is witnessing the impact of the most significant revolution of our times, the “Internet Revolution" which tectonically transformed communication and human engagement. In these eight years since the last edition, digital media has come to occupy the centre stage, elbowing out traditional media to the sidelines. The implications of this dramatic paradigm shift in the way information is generated and accessed are manifold. The new media presents a platform for infinite opportunity, expression, innovation and entrepreneurship. Unlike conventional media, it is not a one-way street. It is an interactive, responsive media that communicates in real-time with a mass, global audience. Digital media has changed both the quality and quantum of news available to citizens. There is barely a minute in the day undisturbed by an assault of messages and forwards, and a lack of self-discipline on this count could leave one snowed under social media all day. Apart from the enormous claims on time, the very nature of the medium deeply impacts the quality of news and opinion.

Author Details
Madhavi Goradia Divan began her practice in the Bombay High Court where she worked on a range of subjects including corporate and commercial law, environmental law and child rights. She was educated at St. Stephens College, Delhi and Cambridge University where she was a Cambridge Commonwealth scholar. She moved to New Delhi in 2006 and began practice in the Supreme Court of India in 2007. The first edition of Facets of Media Law was published in 2006. Madhavi Divan has published several papers and spoken extensively on media related issues.
