Description
In the three-and-a-half years since the last edition there has been some significant judicial and statutory activity in numerous areas of the criminal law. In this edition, the chapter on homicide receives extensive revision to take account of the changes made by the Coroners and Justice Act 2009 which replaced the law of provocation with the new defence of loss of control as well as reforming the law of diminished responsibility. Some of the more notable case law new to this edition is Clinton, Parker, Evans on loss of control; Dowds on diminished responsibility; JM and SM on involuntary manslaughter; Evans (Gemma) on omissions and causation; Gnango on aiding and abetting; Ferriter on attempts and Lambert on blackmail. As well as being comprehensively updated, the text contains extracts from numerous Law Com- mission papers and reports that should assist the reader in understanding the complex nature of criminal law and the problems that it poses for the lawmakers. We would like to express our gratitude to the team at Sweet & Maxwell for their support. The manuscript was delivered to the publisher in March 2013 and the law is stated as at March 2013.
