Description
Mahatma Gandhi, the father of our nation, rightly said, "the customer is the most important visitor on our premises. He is not dependent on us. We are dependent on him. He is not an interruption on our work. He is the purpose of it. He is not an outsider on our business. He is part of it. We are not doing him a favour by serving him. He is doing us a favour by giving us an opportunity to do so." The Consumer Protection Act, 1986, was enacted which broadly covers the United Nations Guidelines on Consumer Protection, 1985, and is aligned with the State's primary duty of improving and protecting consumers under the Constitution of India. Articles 19(6), 21, 38, and 47 of the Constitution guarantees that it is the primary duty of the State to guarantee the right to live with human dignity, free from exploitation, secure a social order for the promotion of the people's welfare, and it shall effectively work to achieve a social order and to raise the level of nutrition and the standard of living to improve public health, and to prohibit the consumption of intoxicating drinks or drugs which are injurious to the health of everyone living in it and the states can also impose reasonable restrictions in the interest of public.
