Description
Law, as Anon says, is an axe to prune those who disobey it. And nowhere it is more appropriate than in the context of Labour Laws in India. These laws are rigid, although outdated, yet require strict compliance from the employers. Those who flout them, wittingly or unwittingly, do so at their own peril. Harassments, prosecution and penalties follow with vengeance even for the minor violations, without eliciting even the semblance of sympathy from the mandarins, who are often in neck-deep corruption. There might have been raging debates about the efficacy of labour laws in its existing form in the liberalised economy but there cannot be even an iota of doubt that non-compliance of labour laws attracts stringent action against violators. There is galore of laws and steady stream of complex regulations; so much so that, more often than not, even the expert brains go for spinning in the tangle of laws. It, however, makes no difference for heartless and mindless authorities who demand their meticulous, impeccable and timely compliance from the employers. Even a minor violation and inadvertent delay in complying with the statutory requirements, not only results in levy of damages but also prosecutions, that too, of the top executives whether he or she is responsible or not. It is better for the employers and their representatives to know the intricacies of the laws as the authorities vested with unrestricted powers derive sadistic pleasure in harassing the employers.
