Description
The present fifth edition of the legal classic B.M. Gandhi's Penal Law of India (hereinafter the book) is a thoroughly revised and enlarged edition incorporating the developments-both legislative and case law-in the realm of the Penal Code (IPC) that took place since the last edition was published in 2017. I had the distinct privilege of revising the earlier edition of the book as well and the readers will find that while the original flavour of the book is maintained, obsolete parts and portions have been omitted and new blood infused in the form of rich text and case law. Since the last edition, much water has flown in the Ganges and of late the constitutional courts have been looking into the IPC offences from the constitutional perspective. Therefore, it is inevitable that the existing provisions of the IPC are understood in the light of contemporary judicial delineations and the book does that.
